Hi all,

my second posting on this great forum. Best one I have ever used.

Anyway to business. I have a 2.3 Zetec 2002. On selecting the parking sensors I get the long tone then the 'flashing P' symbol indicatinf failure.

I have started the engine and the advice of this forum got my 'lug 'ole' around each sensor and found that all the front and rear sensors are 'clicking' (sounds like a small static discharge). I understand the control unit is under the passenger seat as I suspect this might the best itme to check next.

Please can someone confirm I am right to go here next as I surprised it could have failed if all the sensors are firing. Am I missing something. There has never been any water ingress in there as far I can see.

Lastly, anybody any idea how much they cost?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Rick, it seems to be a common misconception on here that the sensors ticking indicates nothing wrong with them. Thats unfortunately not the case, it simply indicates the sensor has power. Listening for the ticking noise is really the very minimum check that can be done, indeed I've seen multiple sensors that have failed in the past which will tick merrily away so you really can't use it to confirm the sensors working.

If the modules never been wet then its highly unlikely to have failed, which is a good thing given the cost of the replacement unit is around

Hi thanks for the information and the ticking not being indicative of failure makes sense with the symptoms I have at the moment.

I live between Portsmouth and Southamton so grateful if any nearby meembers have the equipment tocheck this out for me,

Galaxy 2.3 Zetec 2001:

Hello. What a great forum !!

I too have a similar problem with the continuous tone on the sensors. I have found that often it's just a piece of dirt on one or two sensors that trigger this or, if you have been in a car wash, a rough brush may have dislodged one slightly. Regular checks and clean with a soft cloth over the sensors does the trick quite often. Check this first - should save a few hundred quid !!!

All the best.
